The mission of the Rutherford County Adult High School is to provide adult students with the opportunity to complete the requirements for a high school diploma in a flexible setting.
The vision of the Rutherford County Adult High School is a shared vision with the Rutherford County School System, which is to provide students the knowledge and skills to become lifelong learners who are able to adapt and successfully meet the challenges of the future.
The Rutherford County Adult High School was established during the 1994-1995, school year in the annex of Central Middle School. In 1995-1996, it relocated to the Adult Education Center in the McFadden Community Center. During the 1998-1999, school year, the entire Adult Education Center, including the Adult High School, moved to the newly remodeled facility at 502 Memorial Boulevard, which formerly housed the Rutherford County Board of Education. This was the first facility completely dedicated to housing only the Adult Education Program. In October 2005, the Adult Education Center (including the Adult High School)moved to its newly built facility at 2240-B Southpark Drive, next to the Rutherford County Board of Education.
Students must be at least 18 years of age upon entrance into the Adult High School. He/she must meet the graduation requirements for the year he/she began high school. Students must pass the State exams to receive a high school diploma, unless he/she has already met the Competency exam requirements that were in effect when he/she entered the 9th grade.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours per week to remain enrolled in the program. Entrance into the Adult High School is dependent upon courses needed. The Adult High School classroom is equipped with six student computers with internet accessibility to enhance student learning. However, lack of space, staff, and science labs limit the course options of the Adult High School.
The current schedule for the Adult High School is 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday. The school follows the Rutherford County Schools' schedule for dates of operation.
* Special education students who qualify for services must have an updated IEP before program admission.
